For this Autumn/Winter 2010-2011, Painkiller takes men on an adventure with the charm of Azure blue and a design with a hint of Persia. Azure is inspired by a tale, “The Ebony Horse” featured in “One Thousand and One Nights”. It is about a Persian prince on his horse, fighting the evil sultan to rescue the beautiful princess. But in this tale there is a twist. The horse is carved from black ebony and can fly!
Azure in old French means deep blue, itself originating from the old Persian lazhuward, referring to the deep blue stone called lapis lazuli. The azure collection uses different shades of blue, such as Bleu de France, cobalt, navy, palatinate and turqoise with accents of gray, black and white. Painkiller proposes new key pieces such as harem pants, sweat pants, hooded jackets, hand-printed oxford shorts, hand-printed poplin thobe, cropped jackets, faux perfecto jackets, sleek vests and some t-shirts with hidden pockets. Angel cut creates a new vibe to classic pieces while velvet ribbon decoration gives hints of Persian inspiration. The collection’s signature design, the Ebony horse, is printed on many pieces. The golden zippers and buttons are for the “need for speed” touch.
